CrossFitLA ImageI am a native of Oregon who never thought fitness would be my life calling. When I was twelve years old I did the one mile run test at school and found it daunting. I clocked in at fifteen minutes, later discovering my trouble with breathing was due to asthma.

I did not let my struggle with asthma hold me back. When I turned fourteen, I discovered weights and began lifting at my high school and the local YMCA. I gained confidence and strength while having fun and learning independence. My strength enabled me to become a part of the track and field team where I competed in shot put.

CrossFitLA ImageAfter finishing high school I moved away to college to pursue a nursing degree at Southern Oregon University. While in college I competed on the track and field team and also participated in a bodybuilding show. At that point in time I realized that I liked being active more than showing off my muscles. I changed my major and earned a bachelors degree in Health Promotion Fitness Management.

Upon graduating from college I moved to Southern California to find sunshine and discovered a truly active lifestyle and community. I became a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified personal trainer and continued to run and improve my fitness. I love working with both adults and kids, teaching them the importance of physical activity and healthy eating.

I found CrossFit two years ago and have a love/hate relationship ever since. I am CrossFit Level 1 certified and currently a personal trainer to both teens and adults.

In Their Own Words...
My daughter has been going to CFLAKids for nearly two months and she loves it. I love it for her. She is, in general, very athletic and coming here fosters her desire to be competitive, which is important to me. Girls should be able to let this side thrive, if they want it.. The classes make her stronger and faster and more able to enjoy the other sports she's involved in. - Danette R.
