What Will My Child Gain From Doing CrossFit?

CrossFit LA Kids “Little Champs," “Champs,” and "Teens" programs create superstars out of your children. At CrossFit LA, there are no benchwarmers – everyone participates and discovers that FITNESS IS FUN!

CrossFitLA ImageAt CrossFit LA Kids, you will see your child progress through a series of levels, reminiscent of martial arts. At every level children learn new skills and build their fitness.

In addition to learning new skills, you will notice your child makes better food choices, is more focused in school, transitions to new sports easier, and has a reduced risk of sport-related injury.

CrossFit LA Kids is a medium through which you will see your children become the best version of themselves possible. The tool we use is physical fitness, but our philosophy is that training CrossFit increases quality of life, both inside and outside the gym – children learn to become leaders and successful human beings.

Our Commitment:
• We teach children to become successful leaders.
• We will provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• We promote the importance of health and fitness for a life time.
• We will bring out the champion in your child!

CrossFitLA ImageOur program includes:
• Weekly Classes
• “Skills of the Month”
• “Words of the Week”
• Nutrition Education
• PR Days & Test Days
• Promotion Events & Ceremonies
• Ranking System for Levels

CrossFit LA Kids is designed for EVERY child to experience and celebrate progress. As you watch your child grow in ability and confidence, you will also see them learn that hard work results in success.

Becca Borawski

CrossFitLA ImageI have been a part of the CrossFit LA community for five years. Prior to finding CrossFit LA, I earned an MFA from USC in Film Production, studied various martial arts, and quit my day job years ago to pursue my true passion -- helping others fall in love with fitness, like I did.

As the founder of CrossFit LA Kids, my newest and biggest passion, I hope to lead the path toward healthy families by building health and fitness from the ground up -- the children.

What Does CrossFit LA Kids Teach?

CrossFitLA ImageCrossFit LA Kids uses a combination of skill practice, workouts and games to build strength and conditioning in children. Our classes include elements of gymnastics, weight lifting, body weight movements, running, jump roping, and more.

Specifically, CrossFit LA Kids teaches the 10 General Physical Skills. These skills are the base for any sport or discipline your child may pursue.

You will see your child have an increased ability to learn and succeed in other sports, once they have a base in CrossFit.

The 10 General Physical Skills

Cardiovascular Endurance – Can you get enough oxygen to your body?
Stamina – Can you get enough energy to your muscles?
Strength – How much can you lift?
Flexibility – Can you touch your toes?
Power – How much work can you do in the least time?
Speed – How fast can you go?
Coordination – Can you pat your head and rub your stomach?
Accuracy – Can you kick a soccer ball into the net?
Agility – How quickly can you change direction?
Balance – Can you stand on one foot? With your eyes shut?

CrossFitLA ImageI found CrossFit in 2008 and haven’t stopped working out since. I enjoy not only the workouts, but also the supportive and friendly community. I truly enjoy helping others, both adults and children, understand how wonderful it is to be fit and eat well.

Little Champs (Ages 5-8)

“Little Champs”
Ages 5-8
45 minute class

CrossFitLA Image"Little Champs" teaches not only basic physical skills, but also social skills and confidence. Children learn foundation movements like the squat, push ups, pull ups, climbing, jumping, and elementary gymnastic movements.

More importantly, you will see your child also learns to follow directions, listen, communicate, and play with others. Every class includes game play and positive reinforcement. Your child's confidence, both physically and mentally, will grow with each class.

Champs (Ages 9-12)

Ages 9-12
45 minute class

CrossFitLA ImageOur “Champs” are on the road to becoming “Future Firebreathers.” The skills they learn are more detailed and may involve light weights. Exercises will include plyometrics, gymnastics, weight lifting basics, running, rowing, and stretching.

Classes continue to include game play and positive reinforcement, as well as discussions on what was learned in each class.

“Champs” also includes focus on leadership skills. As children progress through the program, they will be asked to model movements, lead exercises, and demonstrate an ability to verbally explain exercises.

Four times a year students will also participate in a “PT Test Day” where they demonstrate their abilities not only to their instructors, but have a chance to share what they have learned with friends and family.

Children will earn their way through our ranking system on their way to become an official “Firebreather.” As they progress through the levels they will be recognized by daily and weekly awards in their success journal and quarterly advancement indicated by a system of colored t-shirts and stripes.

Teens (Ages 13-17)

Ages 13-17
60 minute class

Our teen program takes training to the next level. Students will continue to learn the basic physical skills, including strength, cardiovascular conditioning, agility, coordination, and balance. In addition they will take a more in-depth exploration of the movements constituting CrossFit.

Weight training will transition from dumbbells to barbells, with the emphasis still on using the least amount of weight possible to provoke a growth response in the body. Proper form will be priority number one.

Workouts will be of high intensity than the Little Champs and Champs program and the vocabulary used in class will be on par with that of the Adult Beginner classes. There will be a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication and leadership skills, knowing that our Teens are just a few short steps from being grown-ups out in the "real" world.

CFLA Teens is appropriate for kids who have been in our Little Champs and Champs programs and also for kids with no CrossFit experience. CrossFit, as with the adults, is scalable for all fitness and skill levels.

In Their Own Words...
My daughter has been going to CFLAKids for nearly two months and she loves it. I love it for her. She is, in general, very athletic and coming here fosters her desire to be competitive, which is important to me. Girls should be able to let this side thrive, if they want it.. The classes make her stronger and faster and more able to enjoy the other sports she's involved in. - Danette R.
