Great video, definitely puts in perspective how I've come to understand the two. The greatest challenge is to recognize those characteristics in someone else and allow them to take on the responsibilities that you've developed to build a great business. It's about separating the emotional tie to your business and trusting that a trained and qualified person has the skills to take on, improve, and run what you've built. I think that will be the most satisfying accomplishment of all.

Been a while since I've been involved on here, but finally had some time this morning to check the site out.
I'm always impressed and almost shocked at what blog post I always "happen" to stumble across here. Leadership and the ability to manage is a big area where I think most new people to business don't have a great background in.
Yes, we have a great service to offer (CrossFit) and you might be the greatest coach on the planet, but eventually you'll spread yourself out too thin if you don't take time out to learn how to manage people.
Something I've learned the hard way - it's OK to be the boss. People (both members and staff) need to be led. They need clear cut expectations and methods to ensure that they are being met.
Contrary to current popular feel good business books, you can't form a "superstar team" and give them absolute freedom in your business to do their thing in thier specialized area. You need to be in control.
Thanks for the great content on your site guys. Let's get a conversation started on this.
ps Jennifer, call me.
