Do you let someone tell you that you can’t have your dream?
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 | Posted by John Burch
From time-to-time people we know... people really close to us, like our best friend or our spouse or even parents will tell you that you CAN'T do the thing you've set as your goal. I've personally had this happen to me several times and know how hard it is to NOT listen to those people. I've gone as far as not talking to specific people in my life because I knew what they thought was helpful, warning me about the difficulties of said endeavor, would actually erode my confidence. It's not easy, believe me, to tell your mother "Mom, I can't talk to you about this because you won't understand..." but it IS necessary to preserve the sanctity of positive energy around you when you're getting something off the ground.

Does this happen to you?

Tell us, how do you deal with it?

Post to comments.

I have had over five years experience of doing business with family members and have had many conversations such as these. It is a waste of time to keep yourself in these situations. For example, I avoid telling My sister any new idea because I already know her response. Funny thing she comes up with the same ideas later down the road.
Some people are technicians, people who run from the "hard", and have no vision of what could and should be.

Had a HS teacher tell me that I couldn't get into the Naval Academy - simply because her star pupil was unable to get into West Point.

Well, I'm a 1993 Naval Academy Graduate closing in on 16 years of active duty Marine Corps service.

If you want something, go get it. Period.
