7:30am - Private Yoga Lesson, at Inner Elements
Willow suggested I do private training with her once or twice a month to set some individual goals, so this was my first session. It was great! Basically it was an hour of standing still, shaking, and dripping sweat. Wow. But, the really cool thing is we went over the issues I’ve got going on with my body and how I can adjust the poses we do in class to work on my particular things. I have a whole sheet of homework also. So in between privates with her I can practice these things at home and practice things in class from my own perspective as well. Really great session.
5:30-7:00pm - Olympic Lifting, at PDX Weightlifting
I mentioned in an earlier entry, PDX Weightlifting is the only strictly O-Lifting gym here. Which is pretty cool - we don’t even really have one of those in LA! Closest thing in LA was going down to Sean Waxman’s. So, it’s really great to have access to that here, about 10 minutes from my apartment.
Nick, the owner/coach, starts everybody with the bar on snatch. Last week I only did the bar and did a bazillion of the same snatch drill. This week we did a slightly different drill and he let me work my way up to 65#. He made some adjustments to my positions and speed that are definitely very different for me, but make a lot of sense. I was thinking about it a lot right before I fell asleep last night, too. LOL I am excited to keep working on the new technique and see what happens. Also, it just feels awesome to move a bar around.
I also did a bunch of front squats after doing snatches for an hour. The way Nick runs his gym is based on the Bulgarian method of training, so it’s pretty much going for 1RM’s all the time in everything you do. Even when he has me practicing technique I only do 2-5 reps per set and then take a break. So I started with sets of 5 on front squat and Nick told me “that’s a lot of reps!” LOL, so I went heavier and switched to 2’s then 1’s. I made it up to 135#, which for me, not having lifted heavy in many months was pretty good, so I was happy.
