So maybe if I just post to my food journal 1x week I will be able to keep up with posting it.  Let’s give it a shot.  Also, I met with John Welbourn from CF Balboa last week and I have been given a new food block prescription.  6 meals through out the day with a total block count of 30P/15C/45F.  That is a whole lot of food!!!  This week was a prep week for the new prescription, so I was trying to figure out how I need to prepare my food so that I can eat this much.  I wasn’t perfect YET, but I will be in this up coming week.

Well, now that I am free of Fran, the CrossFit Games (and my training) I felt like splurging!  I had a lot of great tasting food and beer this weekend.  Fortunately, the capacity of my stomach is not what it used to be!  I came in dead last at our 2 hour AMPAP at brunch today, barely able to crunch 3 plates of food into my stomach in just over 2 hours.  I was beat by 2 small ladies by at least 1 complete plate, plus the rest of the crowd made me look like I am an amateur eater… Like I have only been doing it for about 2 weeks rather than the 27 1/2 years that I have been practicing!

Oh well… Great Times!

So, I have been “officially” on the Zone for a little over a week now.  My diet hasn’t really changed from 2 weeks ago, but I wanted to make it official.  So, now I am counting blocks rather than just the macronutrients of the foods that I eat.  I have even started weighing and measuring the foods that I am eating again.  I have weighed and measured very strictly in the past, but I wasn’t counting my blocks.  I have even been weighing and measuring for most of the past year, but I decided that if I am going to ask you, my students to do this, then I should be doing it exactly the same!

I was at a CF seminar a week ago, and during the lecture on nutrition, Jimi said not to try and “game the game”.  What he meant by this is that all of the food that is “blocked” out has had every macronutrient it contains considered.  For example, 1 egg has 7g P and 6g F.  So, not “gaming the game” means that 1 egg is 1 block of protein, and I don’t have to count the fat from the yolk.  I used to count both when considering what I was eating.  This leaves me more room to eat more, and simplifies the work with the numbers that I have to consider… I think that I’m going to like this! 

Today I didn’t get my total number of fat blocks in, but I am “gaming the game” and considering the fat that I got from my eggs.  What really happened here is just that I didn’t feel like eating any more for breakfast and didn’t make up for the lack of fat blocks simply because I feel that I got plenty in with all my eggs this morning. 

I am still adapting to this way of measuring my foods, and should be completely dialed in soon!
