I’m behind on logging - I was sick, then I came back, then got sick again, now back . . .

Sun 5/8 Mothers Day, 8:30am class

With a partner 3 rounds, max reps push ups, partner then does OHS

Kelly and I were paired together.  Here’s what we did

30 push-ups for Kelley
30 OHS squats for me, #42

10 from toes push-ups for me
10 OHS for Kelley

16 push ups for Kelley
16 OHS squats for me, #42

7 from toes push-ups for me
7 OHS squats for Kelley

20 push ups for Kelley
20 OHS squats for me, #42

4 from toes push-ups for me
4 OHS squats for Kelley

This was hard after the warm up that was very hard for me, one of those lay down go as fast as you can building things that Jonesy does.  I hit my shin on the box in box jumps - really nasty bruise came immediately, I iced it right away at the gym.  Damn that hurts . . .SUPER SUPER bad.  I’m really glad I iced it at the gym, it feels ok now.

5/7 WOD: AMRAP 15 minutes
3 power cleans
6 burpees
12 double unders

58#, 10 rounds - hard!

5/5 WOD:

3 rounds for time
500 meter row
12 deadlifts
9 hang power cleans
6 push jerks

53#, time 14:17

Sat 4/23 10:30am w/Becca

I had considered yoga this morning and my timing was off - so I did my 4th class of crossfit this week.  Yikes - all running for me.  Psychologically I made a decision that it would be pleasurable for me - and - good news - it was ok.  Not terrible.  I was in acceptance that I’d pretty much be running a continuous loop, and I almost was yet not quite - I was happy with 3 pts.

Much more upsetting was that I realized at around 3:30 today that I forgot to log my points for the challenge.  GRRRRR!  I had a 6 day - all my points.  I have yet to forget to do this - BUMMER.  Especially since I’m taking Easter off on the nutrition front.  GRRRRR.

“Bunny Hops”
4 Rnds of 800m run every 7 minutes.
In the time remaining each round after the run, complete and score 1 point for every set of:
10 x deadlifts (73#)
10 x box jumps (20”)

Round 1: 1
Round 2: 1
Round 3: 0
Round 4: 1

Score: 3

Friday, 4/22

Mini-Karen
500 meter row
30 box jumps
30 wall balls (8#)

3 rnds for time: 25 something?  This was unpleasant - 30 of wall balls every round in particular.  I’m recovering from a cold too, so this did not help my attitude - I was tired.

Wed, 4/20 @ 12 noon w/Sam

CrossFit Games Open 11.5

Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 20 minutes of:
5 Power cleans (52)
10 Toes to bar
15 Wall balls (20)

score = 7 rounds + 5 power cleans + 3 toes to bar

20 minutes is a long time at this - a really long time.  I could have gone heavier on the power cleans - it would have meant less rounds. I tend to choose being able to complete rounds over going heavier - it’s something I need to work with, ie, choosing weight over speed, to build more strength.

4/19 Tues @ 1pm w/Jonesy

Warm up was fun - a clean up game?  Fun - and hard

WOD:

Helen
3 rnds for time:
400 meter run
21 KB swings (12 Kg)
12 pull-ups (purple and red)

Time: 13:08.  The last time I could find I did this my time was 18 min plus - this was pretty soon post baby, so a whole different me . . . good to be in the intermediate/advanced class, although I was pretty much left in the dust.

4/19

Catching up.  Came on Sat, did the single jumps/box jumps/1 snatch workout, AMRAP for 15 minutes - 7 and 2/3 rounds. . . .

I was feeling it - this was my 3rd day of crossfit in a row, 5th in a week - which is new for me.

Today I start a 3 or 4 day in a row week of crossfit.

Friday 4/15 10am class w/Jonesy

FUN warm-up - teams of 3, shuffling/catching medicine ball, medicine ball v-twists with partners throwing them to us, Jonesy timed us…good fun, different stuff!

WOD:

3 rounds for time of:
10 Burpees
20 Squats
30” L-Sit
40 Overhead Walking Lunges (25# plate - single count)

Time: 18 something

This hurt . . a lot and was H-A-R-D - deceptively HARD - I knew the l-sit and lunges would be difficult, was not prepared for how difficult the lunges would be.  I’m feeling them in a big way as of 4pm today.  This is day 3 of crossfit for me, which probably made it harder.  I’m coming to the gym tomorrow for day 4.

4/12 Tues, 12 noon class

shoulder press then:

20 minute AMRAP

250 meter row
200 meter run
125 single unders

4 2/3 rounds. Felt good - tired going in coming back from travels and parents visiting, and, still felt decent.  Tired now though!

I ate a whole bag of roasted plaintains today (Trader Joe’s, really yummy) - hence proving that one can overeat just about anything if one chooses to.  I can see I’m going to need to cut back a bit on the peanut butter and some other things.  Eating the whole bag was entertaining though — while it lasted.  I haven’t felt that free eating a whole bag of anything in a long time.

4/10

Back from 10 days in Mexico w/Lucinda and my mom - 7 days in San Miguel de Allende, a beautiful colonial town and then 3 days in Guanajuato, another beautiful town - with one overnight in Queretero - interesting town, bad bed and breakfast experience and we left - good story though.

I left for Mexico 2 days after the challenge began.  Really?  Mexico for the whole life challenge?

I had a great experience - given the challenge I indulged significantly less, as in maybe 3 whole days vs. all 10.  I did intense walking every day for over an hour or more, serious walking uphill on cobblestones, with at least HALF of it carrying Lucinda (who’s about 22-25 pounds now?). She was a champ overall, a great traveler, although strangely, when we reached the streets with the biggest hills, this was when Lucinda would say, “Up, pick me up, carry me” . . . I would say to myself, ok, this is my 10 minutes today . . .

I lost 1.5 pounds while away - and only one night with chips.  3 nights with beer?  One great night with shark tacos - well worth losing the points.

This is the first time I have been off of coffee in years.  Black tea is workable.

Coming back to WODS was almost easy, given I’d been doing a lot of physical activity every day.  Here’s my catching up:

Sat, 4/9

WOD

1 ground to overhead
round of cindy
2 ground to overheads . . .
cindy
etc

Rnds: 8 even, with 52#

Sun, 4/10

WOD:
4 rounds for time:

400 meter run
20 knees to elbows
50 squats
time: 27:49?

Here’s to me being in class 4 days a week for the rest of the challenge!

Tuesday, 3/22

Max Handstand hold, 2ce - 1 was 40 something, 2nd was a PR for me - 54:6
Max Bar Hang, 2ce 1 was 1:25
Max L-Sit, 2ce, 1 was 40
Max Arch Rocks, 2ce 1 was 1 minute

We only got through one round plus the second handstand hold :-(.  This bummed me out, we did not manage our time well.

2K row for time:  9:56.1

Today - Thurs, 3/24

5 rounds for time:
21 KB swings
15 wall balls
9 dips

18:40?

Hard - wall balls, still not my friend.  I get lazy mentally on these and want to stop - I have the stamina to go longer, I just lose the want to.  Good though - hard.

Sunday, 3/20

WOD:

1 mile run or 2K row
100 burpees
1 mile run or 2K row

Time: 33:09.  I did 80 burpees.  Good workout - HARD, great day for it.  I felt good in the last row - was consistent and solid, even with feeling spent.

Catching up -

Tuesday, clean and jerk
maxed at 78.  I need to learn how to get lower in the lunge on the jerk.

Today -

For time:
30 Jumping Slamballs (10)
400m Run
30 Jumping Slamballs
40 Dumbbell Push Ups
30 Jumping Slamballs
40 Renegade Rows (20)
30 Jumping Slamballs
400m Run
30 Jumping Slamballs

Time - 20:19.  I did jumping slamballs and 20# renengade rows.  This was hard - really good, and hard.  I felt pretty good overall although the jumping slamballs were challenging.  I did these in sets of 10 by round #2.

It was a good class - big, very enthusiastic group.  The woman next to me was from Glascoe, and was doing crossfit in Glascoe, here for the marathon.

grin.

“330 Challenge Finals”
300m run
30 ground to shoulder (52#)
300m run
30 shoulder to overhead
300m run

time:  10:45
baseline: 12:53

Shaved 2 min 8 seconds off my time - YAY!  I attribute this to going up to 3 days a week right when we did the baseline.  I feel a big difference in my strength and stamina coming 3 days a week (I was going 2).

This thing is still hard.  It didn’t help that I was up at 5am - for no real reason, just awake.  And, I’m happy.  I think if I had been better rested I would have gotten another 5 secs.

Fun day!  Lucinda was there to cheer me on along with my husband John, my brother-on-law, and my mother-in-law.  Kudos to ALL the crossfit staff and instructors in training - you did a fantastic job, really impeccable in terms of organization and support.
