I let myself have a little extra fat today, but I am really proud that I was able to maintain my strict Zone during the holiday party.  I did treat myself to 4 of the butter cookies, but I looked at their nutritional info. and blocked them out, as part of my day.  I am also really proud of the will power I have shown this week.  Between Andy’s b-day celebration, John’s b-day celebration, Gretchen’s b-day celebration and all of the goodies that students have been bringing to the gym (and don’t get me wrong, they were very appreciated - and devoured - just not by me) - it’s been a heck of a week.  I am very looking forward to finishing my 15th day of strict zone (minus my 1 slight slip up last Saturday) on Monday, December 22nd.  Trust me - Tuesday, December 23rd is going to be a heck of a cheat day - and I will be sure to enjoy every second of it!!!

So, I had a mini-fall off the bandwagon tonight.  I resisted the urge to have any of Andy’s birthday cake after the “Nancy.”  I was even the person that cut and served all of the pieces, and I didn’t eat any of it - trust me that took some major will power.  Then, I went to my friend’s birthday party in the evening.  It was a scavanger hunt followed by dinner and dessert at a dive bar, for karaoke and fun.  I watched as everyone else ate very yummy, greasy fried bar food - and I ate my Zone bar.  Then, they brought out the cake/cupcakes and I watched as everyone devoured those too.  I knew that my willpower had just about run out for the day and I was ready to excuse myself from the party and go home to have some Zone friendly food.  Unfortunately, my car was not at the bar - so I was at the mercy of waiting until other people were ready to leave the party - so they could drive me to my car.  I ended up waiting about 1.5 hours longer than I would have stayed and was so frustrated by the time I left.  I ended up going home and making myself 2 big bowls of popcorn, popped on the stove wtih canola oil and some seasonings and then ate some chocolate flavored popcorn that I had in my cupboard.  It wasn’t the worst possible cheat, but I am a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to make it the 2 full weeks without cheating.  Back on track tomorrow!!!

Recipe Notes:  So, I decided to try something new this week.  I bought a package of extra lean ground turkey.  I cooked onions, finely chopped yellow peppers, some garlic and chopped zucchini in a pan with cooking spray and a bunch of seasonings.  In a separate pan, I cooked the lean ground turkey with some spices and broke it up into little pieces.  Then, I combined the two and added a little Worcestershire sauce and a little ketchup (I would have used tomato sauce, but I didn’t have any at my house).  The package of turkey ended up making 14 blocks of P’s - which I then divided up into 7 servings (each with 2P and 1C).  It was absolutely delicious - and didn’t take that long to cook.  I have been eating it for dinner all week and I swear it tastes better and better each day.  Tonight, I even melted a little feta cheese over it - and that made it even yummier!!!

So, today marks the start of my 2 weeks - STRICT ZONE - NO CHEATING!!  I never did this 2 week period, when I first started the zone.  This was partly because I had pretty recently come off a different diet plan - that I had been following for 1 year - and honestly, I just didn’t feel like I could dive from one diet plan to another.  Mentally, I wasn’t ready for trying the zone, that strict - right off the bat.  I have been on a loose form of the zone for about 1.5 months so far - so, I figured I would give the 2 week strict period a try now.  As I look back at my last 1.5 months of “zoning” - I have never gone more than 3 days at a time without some form of cheating - so 2 weeks straight is going to be a challenge.  I am going to try to keep my blocks around 11C / 11P / 15 - 18F ideally.  If I absolutely need it, I will add more fat, but my ideal fat intake is going to be about 15 - 18 blocks per day.
