Push Press 1-1-1-1

- rest –

10 rounds for max reps of:
1 min Double Unders
30” rest

Had never done push press before, so was just working on form, doing sets of 3-5 per, mostly with 65 then 85 on the last set of three.  Need to work on keeping back straight/elbows tight/driving hips/spring from legs.

Not ready to try for double unders on jump rope yet, but rhythm and speed getting much better on single unders.  Now the trick is to stop with the double hops.  Was not counting for most of the time, but recall I did get 38 consecutive at one point, which beats my record of 32 from the other day.  Probably was up above that, but I’ll pay more attention next time.

Jump rope (single under)/sit-ups

17:21

Took me a while to get rhythm going on jump rope at first.  Rainy day so doing it in the office in the apartment and was nervous about hitting stuff.  Was getting into a little groove on it by the second set.

Slow on sit-ups.

Warm-up/cool down:  walk to/from park (1.15 miles each way)

Workout:

200m run
21-15-9
pushups/squats/body row
200m run

10:47

Really not sure about the 200m, think it was actually closer to 250.  Need to find someplace w/low bar for body row and track for clearly marked 200 m.

Warm up:

Short lap +

3x

7 muscle up transitions
5 box jumps from squat
10 arch rocks
30 seconds hold position on rings

Workout:

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
4 Muscle Ups
8 Pistols
12 Wall Ball

5 2/3

Used legs more than I’d like on the muscle ups, and had to use two boxes for the pistols, but wall ball was a ton of fun.  I always like working out with medicine balls.

No gym today, but bought jump rope and worked out with it at home for a while.  Not quite sure what double unders are, but as I can barely do single unders, definitely wanted to practice solo before trying in class.

Screwed around trying to find rhythm for a bit, got pretty sweaty, then once I started getting tired, challenged myself to make 200 jumps (total - not timed).  PR for consecutive was 32, but I hit 31 a couple of times.  Started coming much easier once I started double-hopping.  Towards very end, started picking up the pace, which made it easier in a way, but was pretty gassed.  Practice should improve this fast.

First class yesterday night w/Jonesy.  Workout was Three Little Witches and I did a scaled version w/just the first two (Frannie at 11:45 and Gracie at 8:10) both with weight at bar + 20.  First time doing thrusters or c&j.  Took a while to get hang of c&j movements, but think I was getting better on form toward end.  Thrusters maybe the reverse - as I got tired my form and rhythm suffered.  But that should come.

Pull-ups still really shaky.  Had to switch to jumping pull-ups less than halfway through.  On non-gym days should practice w/pushups or on bar in park.

Came in for intro session on Monday and did baseline in 9:51.

Plenty of room for improvement (is one way to put it).  Was just trying to finish and wasn’t thinking about time at all.  Left way too much in the tank on leg stuff in the beginning.  Really need to work on pull-ups in particular (that was probably half the time), and form on everything.
