I see a lot of material out there touting why CrossFit is better because it's not about looking good.
First to that I say, "Really?"
Second, I say, "Who cares if I just want to look good?"
Well, to be accurate, I also want to feel good. But I don't think looking good and/or feeling good are any less of a goal than anything else out there. Yes, one of the reasons I fell in love with CrossFit years ago was because it took my eyes off the scale and put them on much more healthy and fun numbers, like numbers of pull-ups or the weight of my deadlift. But that being said, those numbers are also only important to a point. Pursuit of any number can become unhealthy if it's done without a well-rounded mindset. And so, I care more about the weight of my deadlift than I did ten years ago, before starting CrossFit, but care less about it than I did even one year ago. Yes, it was fun last year to lift 225lbs for a bunch of reps, but it's also fun to be able to get out of bed and stand up straight. It's also fun to fit in my jeans and not feel like a puffster, and with all that strength training I was definitely verging on puffster. And truth be told I can't even remember how many reps I did on that peak day, so it can't actually have been that important after all.
What I do know is that today I woke up and I felt good. I felt energetic and I felt light (whether the scale said I weighed more or less, I felt "light.") I got out of bed without pain, I went for a three mile walk with the love of my life, and tonight we'll do a met-con workout together at the gym. And when I looked in the mirror this morning I saw some abs. And you know what? I liked that, and I don't feel bad about that being what I'm after.
