In Their Own Words...
Crossfit has dramatically changed the way I look at fitness. As a Firefighter, I need to be fit enough to deal with any type of physical situation.

How do you stack up against the pros?

Ever wondered how you'd do going up against a pro-football player in a fitness challenge? Click here to check out the results from 7 different events at the NFL Combine (thanks, Z, for sending in the link!) It wouldn't really be a 'fair' challenge (going up against a football player) since these events are ones that they practice all the time (not like events pulled out of our 'hopper'), but still, it's interesting to see the numbers (how about that 40" vertical jump for a 256 pound defensive end - wow!)

Today's Workout

For time:
1200m run
21 Knees to elbows
21 Jumping Squats
21 Burpees
800m run
15 Knees to elbows
15 Jumping Squats
15 Burpees
400m run
9 Knees to elbows
9 Jumping Squats
9 Burpees

Obviously, the time domain on most of these workouts reflects the nature of football itself, as it measures performance in the range of a few seconds of all out work. Jered Cook was probably the most impressive athlete overall in terms of performance relative to size, as he is 6'5", 246lbs. and ran a 4.50 forty yard dash, with a 41" vertical, 23 reps of 225lb bench press, and a 10'3" standing broad jump!

I was interested to see how CrossFitters would stack up against some of these athletes in these different categories if the 'NFL Combine' events were pulled out of our fitness 'hopper' as Andy says...

I was looking at bench press and the top score for 225# bench was 39 reps - but the guy is 333#! That would be like me benching 117# or Andy benching 111#. I think we could pull it off!

True, I think you could too... but will you do the broad jump, the vertical jump, the 40 yard-dash, and the shuttle runs with a 150+lb weight suit? smile Check out Mr. Brooks Foster, who at 211lbs. did 27 225lb. bench presses!

If you click on the "Learn more about the workouts and what scouts assess" link just above the scores, you can also see a brief overview and video of the individual position workouts, which are impressive in their own right.

No, but their size isn't just dead weight, its also power-generating muscle. 40 yard dash is one thing, but the jumps are definitely benefited by the power of their muscle mass.
