Patience, Grasshopper

Posted by Becca Borawski : Wednesday, Jul 18, 2012

Okay, we might not be teaching you Kung Fu, and certainly CrossFit wouldn't be so easy to do in those robes, but there's some truth beneath the camp of this video. Consider that how you've "seen" yourself athletically and physically for your whole life might not be the whole picture. Chances are there are many things you are not seeing about yourself in your journey as a student of human movement. Maybe you didn't see that you weren't mobile. Maybe you didn't see you weren't eating so well after all. Maybe you didn't see that you are far more athletic than you ever realized.

And while I'm not asking you to sneak up on any of the coaches and whack them with a broom, consider your coach sees you with different eyes than you. What they see are the gaps in your development and the potential that oozes from you. They see the you that you don't. So even if it doesn't make sense in the moment, try to sit with what they offer you. Try to practice it and see what happens. Instead of pushing it away outright, play with it and have patience, Grasshopper.
