While interacting with CFLAers Danette and Carolyn the other day on Facebook, I made the comment that as I get older and more mature in my training, I find the people I admire the most are not the "fire breathers," but rather those who I referred to as the "steady burners." These are the people who show up for the long haul. They may not be the fastest out of the gate and they may never make it to the front of the pack, but that's not why they're there anyway. Which is not to say everybody doesn't like to feel accomplishment and accolades, but the steady burners have a modesty about the most amazing accomplishments of all - consistency, patience, persistence, and dedication. I'd take those qualities over a one-time win any day.
So today I say kudos to the steady burners. Thank you for always being in class. Thank you for coming back time after time, even when life was busy, when kids were born, when jobs were changed. Thank you for being there, for being positive, and for being an example and an inspiration. I know most of you whom this applies to won't even realize I'm talking to you. You don't think of yourself as inspirational. You might not even think of yourself as amazing. But you are both of those things and our community would suffer without your presence.
